about me

I am a Ph.D. candidate in the department of Statistics and Probability at Michigan State University. For my research, I am utilizing word embedding algorithms with generalized additive models to develop new methods for extracting and analyzing paragraphs of text in the context of insurance risk. Outside of school, my favorite hobby is learning about Statistics through sports. As I hear about a new technique, I dig deeper by applying the method to answer a variety of sports related questions.

Experience

Graduate Teaching Assistant

Michigan State University
2015 - Present

Teaching Modeling for Business Analytics, a course for the MSBA degree (Each Summer 2016 – Present). Teaching Intro to Data Science, an undergraduate course introducing data management, analysis, and visualization in R (Fall 2018 – Present). Previously, I taught four sections (30 students per section) of recitation for STT-200 (an introductory course to statistics) each semester. I was responsible for teaching recitation once a week to each section, assisting students with homework, and holding office hours to answer additional questions.

I was responsible for providing statistical support for the site, with an emphasis on designing experiments, optimizing process parameters, and investigating the control of procedures. The position required strong communication skills and the ability to convey technical results to an audience with limited statistical experience.
